How long have you been in business?

I’ve been on the Web considering that 2001. I began selling part-time on eBay. I left a task about a year later to work with vintage full-time as well as started my site, lucitebox.com. We just provided it a face-lift a couple of weeks back as well as I’m truly enjoying working on the new site. It’s fantastic what a new look can do for a gal!

What inspired you to go into the vintage business?

I had just stop a business sales administration job. While sitting on my friend’s deck one afternoon after a long season of temp tasks at area banks, I was bemoaning the boredom of working in the personal sector. I cleared trades at the bank.

My buddy (who I phone call The Determinator since her tenacity as well as decision normally gets huge results) provided me a begin the pants when she asked me,”Holly, man…what are you doing?! What are you gonna do?”

I wasn’t sure what she was getting at, so I told her that I had saved some money as well as was believing of traveling for awhile before I figured out exactly how to re-enter the work force. I said, “I believe I’m going to travel to Morocco. Wanna include me?” true to Determinator form, she stated “No. I indicate what are you going to make with your life now? You seem absolutely tired as well as I’m getting ill of hearing about your temp task at the bank.”

I said, “Well…I mean you’re right. I may open a vintage store. I’ve been believing about it for a long time, you know.”

That conversation got the sphere rolling for me. I started selling on eBay a few months later as well as just as expected, the Determinator was ideal there assisting me brand my business as well as cheering me on all the way!

What did you do before this?I was the national sales manager for a small-ish start-up business that grossed about 5 million the year I left. Then, I went into a tailspin with a series of seemingly dead-end temp jobs.

Where are you based?Chicago.

More fun questions:

What’s the weirdest/best/craziest/most gorgeous thing you’ve everfound? These things rank right-up there for me…1) Howard Greer 50s gown that’s cut down to THERE!:

2) Irene Lentz 50s evening Jacket3) A trio of fantastic 30s gowns

What do you have in stock that you can’t believe hasn’t sold?

Well, I have racks of things that I haven’t used yet. There have been a few products I’ve provided on eBay didn’t offer as well as they still mystify me. Why, oh why doesn’t any individual comprehend this goofy novelty jacket?

If you ask me, this novelty print jacket as well as gown duo is a champion as well as it will surprise me if somebody doesn’t want to snap this up quickly. inspect out the print–don’t you just like the woman in the buying cart?!

What do you dream about finding?

I offer a great deal in what I’d phone call wearable, daily fashions that are normally rather affordable. My vintage dreams (and they do really wake me with a start) are about discovering an estate where the lady was my size, had great taste in clothes, as well as maintained her wardrobe well. You can’t picture exactly how lots of times I have discovered the utmost 50s sun gown with a magnificent novelty print–in my size–only to wake as well as discover I’m in bed as well as there’s no sun dress!

My wildest daydreamy type of fantasies always include something I’m nearly specific I won’t find. My holy grails are vintage Adrian, Yves St. Laurent’s Mondrian dress, a heavily embellished Nudie suit, as well as perhaps a Charles James or a Fortuny just since I figure that if you’re gonna dream, you may also dream big.

What do you take pleasure in a lot of about working with vintage?

It’s extremely enjoyable to research study the history of fashion. It’s a lot of interesting to share my enthusiasm for history with somebody else. When something that I offer lands in the hands of a person who’ll treasure it (and most likely even wear it), I’m always extremely pleased.

You know, you begin to feel like you’re somehow an ambassador for these old things. I’ve always been drawn in to that concept of simply being a hold or a steward of vintage…like things are just checking out me for a bit while as well as then I get to send it someplace else where they will be appreciated.

It’s kind of like being a linking link in a huge chain. I’d like to believe that the things that leave lucitebox will ultimately end up somewhere else in the far-off future as well as that the chain just goes on as well as on. I have a few of my grandmother’s home-sewn clothes. I look ahead to passing them on to the ideal person after I’m gone. When I look at one of the pieces, I nearly feel her existence in the dress…as if she’s ideal there sitting at her singer in the stitching space working on it.
